Ella Pamfilova reported that the CEC of Russia is carefully considering all messages that contain information about violations committed by election commissions during the preparation and conduct of elections at various levels. In particular, the CEC Working Group headed by CEC of Russia Member Alexander Klukin together with the Election Commission of the Moscow Region conducted an inspection with a trip to the city of Balashikha. The reason for the on-site inspection was the information received by the CEC of Russia about alleged violations at 48 polling stations during the voting in the elections of the Governor of the Moscow Region on 9 September 2018.
According to the results of the visits and within the framework of their authority, the CEC of Russia and the Election Commission of the Moscow Region sent appeals to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation and to the Moscow Region Prosecutor’s Office, respectively, with a request to conduct a comprehensive objective verification of the information mentioned.
“Over the past year, the situation in the Moscow Region, where there had been so many violations before improved significantly,” said the Chairperson of the CEC of Russia. “It is all the more important that this case be investigated with all thoroughness. We ask the law enforcement agencies to pay special attention to this situation, and in case of confirmation of the above information, take measures provided by law. ”
According to Ella Pamfilova, impunity of the organizers of fraud undermines confidence in the electoral system as a whole. She called on the Electoral Commission of the Moscow Region to carefully and systematically check the situation with possible violations in Balashikha. “The CEC of Russia will monitor the verification process, and the Prosecutor General’s Office will help us with this,” she said.
