Central Election Commission of Russian Federation held 222nd meeting

On 21 August 2019 the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation held its 222nd regular meeting.

Before the meeting, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova said that on 27 August at 14:00 the CEC of Russia will host an extended meeting of the Scientific and Expert Council.

"We invite all critics, all who have something to say, to an open discussion, where everyone can express their thoughts," said Ella Pamfilova. "This event is primarily aimed at interested audience, our voters, so that they analyze everything and draw their own conclusions."

On the digital voter information services

Dmitry Gundin, Head of the Department of Collection and Processing of Information Resources of the Federal Informatisation Center affiliated to the CEC of Russia, spoke about new digital services for informing voters, which will soon be posted on the website of the CEC of Russia. These services will allow voters to receive information, in a convenient form, on election campaigns and their dates, election commissions, candidates and electoral associations, data on the results of elections and referendums.

On the election campaigns in subjects of the Russian Federation

Deputy Chairperson of the CEC of Russia Nikolay Bulayev reminded that elections are held every Sunday in all regions of the Russian Federation.

"During the period from 13 January to 20 August 2019, 59 subjects of the Russian Federation held 401 election campaigns," said Nikolay Bulaev. "1545 mandates were distributed, 214 of which were received by self-nominated candidates."

"This year 92 percent of candidates were registered. This high figure sets a new level in Federal campaigns. This is a significant change of the situation," said the Deputy Chairperson of the CEC of Russia. "As for the activity of the parties in this election campaign, 59 parties had the opportunity to participate, 20 percent of them took part in the campaign."

Speaking about the election of senior officials in regions, Nikolay Bulaev said that 76 candidates race for these positions in 16 regions of the Russian Federation.
