On 17 March 2020 the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a Decree "On the appointment of a nationwide vote on approving changes to the Constitution of the Russian Federation" and met with the Chairperson of the CEC of Russia Ella Pamfilova.

The all-Russian vote is scheduled for 22 April 2020.

In a conversation with the head of the Central Election Commission, the President stressed the importance of decisions on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the need for careful preparation for the upcoming vote, but noted that the law allows to postpone the date of voting if the epidemiological situation requires such a measure.

"For all the importance of changes to the Basic law of the country, there is nothing more important than the health and life of our citizens," he said.

In turn, Ella Pamfilova said that the election commissions are actively working on preparing for the vote and are ready for any development of events: "We are ready to provide all necessary means of protection to our colleagues in the electoral system, and, of course, to the participants of the vote. Regardless of the timing of the vote and the situation, we will take all measures that meet the primary goal of preserving the health and safety of citizens."
