The Federation Council and the State Duma have appointed new members of the CEC of Russia

On 17 February 2021 the Federation Council and the State Duma considered candidates for appointment as members of the new composition of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.

Deputy Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation of the current composition Nikolay Bulaev, Chairperson of the Election Commission of the Orel region Lyudmila Markina, head of the administration of the Krasnogorsk city district of the Moscow region Elmira Khaimurzina, acting members of the CEC of Russia Yevgeny Shevchenko and Boris Ebzeev were appointed members of the CEC of Russia from the Federation Council.

"I hope that we will work together to improve the electoral system and the electoral process," said Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council.

Following the appointment, Nikolay Bulaev thanked the members of the Federation Council and, in particular, the Committee on Regulations and Organization of Parliamentary Activities for their professionalism and goodwill: "We have been in contact with the relevant committees of the Federation Council for these five years and are ready for even greater and more active cooperation."

The State Duma appointed candidates proposed by parliamentary factions and a group of deputies as members of the new composition of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. Konstantin Mazurevsky (United Russia), Alexander Kurdyumov (LDPR), current members of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Yevgeny Kolyushin (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), Nikolay Levichev (Just Russia) and Anton Lopatin (group of deputies) were confirmed as members of the new composition of the CEC of Russia.

Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin noted that all elected people are well-known, respected people, experts in the field of electoral law.

"Let us wish them one thing – to be guided by the law and only by the law of our country," said Vyacheslav Volodin.

The five-year term of office of the current composition of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation expires in March 2021. The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation consists of 15 members, and its term of office is five years.
