On 26 February 2021 the Chairperson of the CEC of Russia, Ella Pamfilova, held a meeting with political scientists, where they discussed the issues of voting in elections for several days in a row and collecting signatures of voters using the "Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services".
The event was attended by members of the CEC of Russia, political scientists and experts in the field of electoral law and process.
Ella Pamfilova noted that the probability of using multi-day voting in the elections in September this year is quite high, given the tense epidemiological situation in the country.
"The CEC of Russia builds its work taking into consideration this probability. Therefore, a temporary procedure for holding multi-day voting was adopted, but it is valid until 30 May 2021," said the Chairperson of the CEC of Russia. "It is necessary to test this mechanism during campaigns that will take place in the coming months, to see what can be improved, to add to the experience that we gained last summer during the Nationwide vote and last fall on a single voting day. Then it is necessary to adopt a permanent Voting Procedure for the elections, taking into account regional experience and expert proposals."
During discussion, the topics of multi-day voting, refusal to vote in the adjacent territories, the use of safe packages, the work of observers in a multi-day mode, and other subjects were touched upon.
